Regarding the FSMA Produce Safety Rule (regulated by FDA, and VDACS in VA)

 


 

We wanted to bring to your attention an announcement from FDA this week regarding the Produce Safety Rule (PSR) Rarely Consumed Raw list. The Rarely Consumed Raw list is exhaustive and the items included on the list are exempt from the PSR. The list currently includes: Asparagus; beans, black; beans, great Northern; beans, kidney; beans, lima; beans, navy; beans, pinto; beets, garden (roots and tops); beets, sugar; cashews; cherries, sour; chickpeas; cocoa beans; coffee beans; collards; corn, sweet; cranberries; dates; dill (seeds and weed); eggplants; figs; ginger; hazelnuts; horseradish; lentils; okra; peanuts; pecans; peppermint; potatoes; pumpkins; squash, winter; sweet potatoes; and water chestnuts (21 CFR §112.2 (a)(1)).

Starting Monday, August 10 the public can submit data, information, and/or comments on consumption of produce that is rarely consumed raw through the Request for Information (RFI) docket for the potential expansion of the Rarely Consumed Raw list. Hay Feeding Survey

This is a multi-state hay production survey that the University of Arkansas Extension is leading but working with Virginia Cooperative Extension. This survey is a follow up/companion to the Southeast Hay Harvest Survey that was distributed in February 2020. The data collected by this survey is very important to helping Virginia Cooperative Extension better serve farmers. The survey should not take more than about 10 minutes to complete. Survey responses will remain confidential. This survey will be open until September 18 2020.

This survey is exclusively focused on hay feeding practices.
