Dr. Ozzie Abaye
is a professor of agronomy in School of
Plant and Environmental Sciences at Virginia Tech whose scholarship
centers on improving the livelihood of smallholder farmers to address
hunger and poverty, mainly in West Africa. In this
presentation, Dr. Ozzie Abaye will talk about the ways she incorporates
culinary and food systems perspectives into her teaching and outreach as a form
of sustainable food systems education. Dr. Abaye will also offer insights into
the implementation of the Global Food Security and Health Pathway Minor program
in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, including the
considerations for domestic and international experiential education that
emphasizes the nexus of food, agriculture, and society.
